In a major setback for US President Donald Trump, a Washington-based non-profit organization, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration to halt the construction of a massive new ballroom linked to the East Wing of the White House.
According to an Al Jazeera report, the legal challenge filed on Friday focuses on the proposed 90,000 square-foot expansion of the White House complex, one of US President Donald Trump’s major renovation projects.
Conservationists have long criticized the project, stating that it would alter the historic character of the building and that the administration failed to follow proper review procedures. However, this marks the first formal legal effort to stop the construction.
