US-India Trade War: Trump Names Sergio Gor as Next Ambassador to India
Washington – Amid rising trade tensions between the United States and India, President Donald Trump has taken a major step by nominating Sergio Gor, a close confidant and long-time ally, as the next US Ambassador to India. Gor will also take on the additional responsibility of serving as Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.
Making the announcement on his platform Truth Social, President Trump said:
“I am pleased to announce Sergio Gor as our next US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs. Sergio and his team appointed over 4,000 ‘America First Patriots’ in record time. He will help advance my agenda and continue making America great again.”
Business Partner: Gor co-founded Winning Team Publishing with Donald Trump Jr., which published two of Trump’s books.
Political Fundraiser: He has been a leading fundraiser for Trump’s campaigns, working closely with super PACs.
Trusted Insider: Trump has often praised him as a loyal friend who has been with him through every major step of his political journey.
Responding on X, Gor wrote:
“Representing America in India would be the greatest honor of my life. There is no greater pride than serving the American people under this administration. I thank President Trump for his trust and confidence in me.”
Gor will replace Eric Garcetti, who served as US Ambassador to India from May 2023 until January 2025. Before him, Kenneth Juster held the position from 2017 to 2021. After Garcetti’s term ended, Jorgan K. Andrews had been serving in an interim role. Gor’s nomination is subject to Senate confirmation before he formally assumes office.
This nomination is widely seen as more than a routine appointment. By sending a trusted ally instead of a career diplomat, Trump signals his intent to strengthen US-India ties at a time of trade disputes and tariff tensions. The move underscores Washington’s commitment to resolving economic frictions while maintaining strategic partnership with New Delhi.
