U.S. President Donald Trump’s aspirations to win the Nobel Peace Prize this year seem unlikely to succeed, with experts suggesting his chances are slim. Even Trump himself admitted that the Nobel Committee may look for reasons to award the honor to someone else instead of him.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that his leadership helped end seven wars, including one between India and Pakistan. Speaking to reporters, he said, “I have no idea… Marco will tell you we ended seven wars. We are close to ending an eighth. I think we’ll resolve the Russia situation too. I don’t think anyone in history has ended this many wars. But they’ll probably find a reason not to give me the prize.”
Swedish professor Peter Wallensteen told AFP, “No, Trump will not win this year. But maybe next year? By then, the situation surrounding many of his initiatives, including the Gaza crisis, may be clearer.”
The Nobel Peace Prize announcement is expected on Friday at around 2:30 pm IST. Reports indicate that 338 individuals and organizations have been nominated, but the list remains confidential. Eligible nominators include lawmakers, government officials, former laureates, and Nobel Committee members.
In 2024, the prize was awarded to Nihon Hidankyo, an organization representing survivors of the atomic bombings in Japan.
For 2025, likely contenders include Sudan’s Emergency Response Room, Yulia Navalnaya — widow of late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, which monitors elections worldwide. Additionally, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the UN relief agency UNRWA are also being considered.
Speculation remains high, and experts believe the Nobel Committee could once again surprise the world with its choice.
