Trump’s Ceasefire Claim Falls Apart as Iran Rejects Deal, Israel Stays in Attack Mode
Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s bold claim that a ceasefire had been achieved between Iran and Israel has come under fire, with both nations denying any such agreement exists. While Trump took to social media, posting nearly a dozen messages declaring himself a peacemaker, the ground reality in the Middle East tells a completely different story.
Trump had announced a ceasefire was in effect following rising tensions and a deadly 12-day conflict. But within hours, Iran resumed its missile attacks, and Israel responded by ramping up its counter-offensive. The so-called truce, according to both sides, was never formalized nor even proposed through proper diplomatic channels.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi outright rejected the ceasefire claims. In a sharp response, he stated, “We have not received any formal ceasefire proposal. There is no agreement with Israel.” He added that Iran would only stop military operations if Israel halted its attacks first. Until then, Tehran would continue to retaliate.
Shortly after Trump’s statement, Iran launched four ballistic missiles toward Israeli territory. One missile struck Beersheba, injuring 22 people and killing 3. This marked Iran’s 25th attack on Israel in the last 12 days, and the fourth ballistic missile assault since the conflict began.
Israel, for its part, has also refuted Trump’s claims. The Israeli military spokesperson refused to comment on any ceasefire, maintaining that Israel would continue its strikes as long as Iran keeps attacking.
According to The New York Times, Israeli defense officials have set a goal to dismantle Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. “There are many targets inside Iran that have not been hit yet,” one source noted. Air raid sirens sounded across multiple Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv, as citizens were urged to remain in bomb shelters.
Trump had positioned himself as a global peacebroker, declaring victory and portraying the U.S. as a global stabilizer. However, both Iran and Israel have now accused him of misrepresenting the situation. His ceasefire narrative is being called a publicity stunt by critics, pointing to the ongoing missile exchanges as proof of failed diplomacy.
Despite the lack of traction, Trump continues to repeat that a truce is “in place,” though both Iran and Israel insist on conditional disengagement — each demanding the other halt attacks first.
As the conflict escalates, hopes for a genuine ceasefire appear dim. Iran’s retaliatory strikes and Israel’s vow to continue targeting nuclear sites indicate that military action is far from over. The region remains on high alert, with experts warning that missteps or misunderstandings could spiral into a larger, regional war.
