Trump Warns Zelensky: “Accept Putin’s Terms or Russia Will Destroy Ukraine”

Date: Monday, October 20, 2025

U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly had a tense and heated meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Friday, where he urged the Ukrainian leader to accept Russia’s conditions for ending the ongoing war. According to insiders, Trump warned Zelensky that Russian President Vladimir Putin would “destroy Ukraine” if Kyiv refused to agree.

A Financial Times report revealed that the meeting between the two leaders quickly escalated into a shouting match. Witnesses said Trump was visibly angry, repeatedly used abusive language, and even threw military maps of Ukrainian frontlines aside during the discussion. He allegedly told Zelensky to surrender the entire Donbas region to Russia, later suggesting that the current frontlines be “frozen” to stop further bloodshed.

Sources familiar with the matter said the Ukrainian delegation had approached Trump’s administration in an attempt to secure long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to strengthen their defenses. However, the U.S. reportedly denied the request, signaling a shift in Washington’s approach toward supporting Ukraine militarily.

A European official briefed on the meeting told the newspaper that Trump conveyed to Zelensky that Putin had described the invasion not as a war, but as a “special operation.” Trump reportedly added that Ukraine would have to make a deal “or face destruction.” The official quoted Trump as warning, “If Putin wants, he will destroy you.” During the meeting, Trump also discarded maps showing Ukrainian battlefield positions, emphasizing that further resistance was “pointless.”

Putin’s Terms Explained

According to Trump’s latest briefing, Putin has demanded that Ukraine cede the entire Donbas region to Russia in exchange for retaining small parts of the southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. This proposal echoes Putin’s earlier stance from the Alaska talks, where he insisted Ukraine must surrender Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and all of Donbas to achieve a ceasefire.

The meeting marks one of the most direct confrontations between Trump and Zelensky since Trump’s return to the presidency. Analysts suggest the encounter signals a hardening U.S. position toward forcing a negotiated settlement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict — one that could drastically reshape Eastern Europe’s political map.
