Tensions between Washington and Tel Aviv have escalated following Israel’s recent aggressive military actions in Gaza and Syria. According to a White House official, President Donald Trump’s team is “increasingly frustrated” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s erratic behavior, describing him as acting “like a madman.”
In recent days, the Israeli Air Force reportedly bombed the presidential palace in Syria. Prior to that, Israeli forces had struck the only Catholic church in Gaza. These back-to-back strikes have drawn strong internal criticism from the Trump administration, which has been attempting to maintain a delicate balance in the region.
A senior White House official told Axios, “Bibi [Netanyahu] is dropping bombs everywhere. His actions are undermining President Trump’s efforts to bring about peace.” The official added that the frequency and unpredictability of the attacks have caused chaos, saying, “It feels like something new explodes every day—this is madness.”
The situation intensified to the point where President Trump reportedly phoned Netanyahu directly to demand clarification about the attacks—particularly the controversial strike on the Catholic church. According to another administration source, the call reflected Trump’s deep concern over Netanyahu’s increasingly volatile decisions.
“There is growing distrust within the Trump team towards Netanyahu,” said one official. “At times, he behaves like an uncontrollable child.” These statements signal a significant rift between the two leaders, despite the historically close relationship between the U.S. and Israel.
In response to the escalating violence, the U.S. facilitated a ceasefire between Israel and Syria through diplomatic channels, notably involving the American ambassador in Turkey. However, Israeli aggression reportedly continued even after the ceasefire agreement, further straining diplomatic ties and complicating America’s peace efforts.
