Washington, Sept 25 (2025) – U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, crediting himself with preventing seven global conflicts, including a potential India-Pakistan war. However, a new Washington Post–Ipsos poll suggests that most Americans strongly disagree — including more than half of Trump’s own Republican base.
The survey found that just 22% of Americans believe Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, while nearly three-quarters rejected the idea outright. Even among Republicans, the results were split: 49% supported Trump’s claim, but a slightly larger 51% opposed it, highlighting deep divisions within his party.
Responding to the survey, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly said:
“The only poll that matters is the one showing that President Trump has saved thousands of lives by ending decades-long conflicts. No world leader has done more to promote global stability. He deserves the Nobel Peace Prize because he cares more about saving lives than taking them.”
Trump himself, addressing the UN General Assembly, downplayed personal ambition:
“I don’t care about winning the prize. I care about saving lives.”
Interestingly, a majority of those surveyed also felt that former President Barack Obama did not truly deserve his 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, suggesting that skepticism over political leaders receiving the award extends beyond Trump.
French President Emmanuel Macron, in an interview with BFMTV during the UNGA in New York, remarked that Trump could only realistically win the Nobel if he manages to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinians.
“Trump wants the Nobel Peace Prize. That will only be possible if he resolves this conflict,” Macron stated.
