“The Right Time to End the War”: Zelensky Calls for Diplomatic Pressure on Moscow
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared that the time has come to end the Russia-Ukraine war, urging allied nations to intensify diplomatic pressure on Moscow. His statement follows recent talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, as well as a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump aimed at achieving a ceasefire.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Zelensky wrote, “Now is the right time to end the war. The most important thing is to use every opportunity and apply appropriate pressure on Russia. The side that started the war must face sustained pressure — that is the key to ending it.”
Zelensky said he discussed all ongoing diplomatic efforts and recent communications with global partners with President Macron. “I’m grateful to Emmanuel for his continued support. We agreed to meet again in the near future to advance peace efforts,” he added.
Zelensky’s statement came shortly after his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump last Friday. Trump said he urged both Kyiv and Moscow to agree to a ceasefire, emphasizing that his main goal was to save lives and prevent the thousands of daily deaths caused by the ongoing conflict.
Speaking to reporters, Trump noted, “My conversation with President Zelensky was very positive and friendly. They should stop the war immediately. Both sides must stand firm on the front lines and begin peace negotiations, or things will become too complicated to resolve. Let soldiers return home to their families — enough bloodshed.”
The Russia-Ukraine conflict, now in its fourth year, continues to drain resources, lives, and international goodwill. However, with European allies like France supporting Zelensky’s diplomatic stance and the United States pushing for de-escalation, analysts suggest a potential opening for peace talks in the coming weeks.
Zelensky’s appeal marks one of his most direct calls yet for an end to the war, signaling that Kyiv may now be open to renewed negotiations under international mediation.
