Terror Attack in Pakistan: Suicide Bomber Destroys Military Post, 4 Soldiers Killed

Islamabad | December 20, 2025

A major terror attack struck Pakistan’s northwestern region of North Waziristan on Friday, where a suicide bomber and armed militants targeted a military post, killing four Pakistani soldiers and injuring at least 15 civilians, including women and children.

According to Pakistani security officials and local police, the attack took place near a village in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, close to the Afghanistan border—an area that has long been affected by militant violence and has previously served as a stronghold for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other extremist groups.

How the Attack Unfolded

Security sources said the attackers included one suicide car bomber and three gunmen. The militants first attempted to breach the security perimeter of the military post. When they failed, the suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the outer wall of the post, triggering a powerful blast.

The explosion caused extensive damage, collapsing several nearby houses and severely injuring local residents. A mosque in the vicinity also suffered structural damage. The blast was followed by hours of intense gunfire between the attackers and security forces.

In an official statement, the Pakistan Army said that all attackers were killed during the exchange of fire.

Civilian Casualties and Damage

Police said the explosion was so strong that debris was scattered across the area, trapping civilians under rubble. Emergency teams rushed to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Several civilians remain in serious condition.

Blame on TTP, Afghan Link Alleged

While no group immediately claimed responsibility, the Pakistan Army blamed the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for the attack. The military alleged that the operation was planned and directed from across the Afghan border.

So far, there has been no immediate response from Afghanistan. The Afghan Taliban have repeatedly stated that they do not allow Afghan soil to be used for attacks against any country, including Pakistan.

Diplomatic Fallout

Within hours of the attack, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry summoned the Deputy Head of Mission of the Afghan Taliban in Islamabad to lodge a formal protest. In a statement, the ministry demanded a full investigation and decisive action against those responsible for planning and facilitating the attack from Afghan territory.

Pakistan also urged the Afghan Taliban leadership to take immediate, concrete, and verifiable measures against all terrorist groups operating within Afghanistan and to ensure that its soil is not used for terrorism against Pakistan.

Rising Regional Tensions

The attack comes amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. In recent months, both sides have accused each other of cross-border violence. Border clashes were reported in October, and Afghanistan had earlier blamed Pakistan for bomb blasts in Kabul on October 9.

Although a ceasefire was later brokered with Qatar’s mediation, talks between the two countries in Turkey in November failed to produce a lasting agreement, leaving regional security fragile.

Security has been tightened across North Waziristan, and further counterterror operations are expected in the coming days.
