Tata’s Jaguar Land Rover Hit by Cyberattack, Production Halted Until October 1

London/New Delhi, September 26, 2025 – Tata Motors’ UK-based subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has been forced to suspend production until October 1 following a major cyberattack that has caused estimated losses of nearly ₹23,864 crore (£2 billion).

The company confirmed that the attack disrupted critical operations, compelling it to halt vehicle production across multiple facilities. Employees have been placed on leave while the automaker works to contain the breach. Initially, the suspension was set until September 24, but it has now been extended to October 1.

Stock Impact

The news immediately rattled investors. Tata Motors’ shares fell over 2% in early trading on September 25, reflecting concerns over the financial and operational fallout. Analysts warn the losses from this cyberattack could exceed JLR’s entire profit from the last financial year.

Company Statement

In a public announcement, JLR said:

“We have informed our colleagues, suppliers, and partners that production will remain suspended until Wednesday, October 1. We deeply regret the ongoing disruption and are conducting a full forensic investigation into the incident.”

The automaker emphasized that it is taking controlled steps to restore systems safely and resume normal operations.

Background & Challenges

This cyberattack comes at a difficult time for JLR, which has already been grappling with rising costs linked to U.S. tariffs and shrinking profit margins. Industry experts caution that any prolonged suspension could severely affect supply chains and sales targets in key global markets.

Ironically, JLR had previously signed a £800 million, five-year cybersecurity and IT support deal with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to accelerate digital transformation across its operations. Despite these investments, the current breach has exposed serious vulnerabilities.

Outlook

Cybersecurity specialists note that the attack highlights growing risks for global automakers, especially those undergoing rapid digital transitions. For now, JLR’s priority is restoring operations securely while managing disruptions to suppliers and customers.
