: IMD Warns of Hail, Strong Winds in Multiple Districts

Storm and rain alert in Punjab has been issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for three days starting May 10. The warning includes thunderstorms, hail, and wind speeds of 40–50 km/h, affecting several districts. Though Friday remained clear with no alerts, a significant shift in weather is expected from Saturday onward.

Storm and Rain Alert in Punjab Expected to Last Till May 12

According to IMD, the storm and rain alert in Punjab is in effect from May 8 to May 12, but the most severe weather is predicted between May 10 and May 11. Affected districts include Mohali, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Bathinda. While May 12 is expected to bring calmer weather across the state, the current forecast highlights the need for vigilance in the coming days.

Temperature Fluctuations Across Cities

Despite the upcoming rainfall, Punjab has been experiencing unusually high temperatures. The average maximum temperature in the state is currently 4.5°C above normal, a concerning indicator of heat stress. Bathinda recorded the highest temperature at 37.9°C, making it the hottest city in Punjab.

In contrast, Amritsar witnessed significant rainfall with 12mm precipitation, leading to a dramatic drop in temperature, approximately 7°C below normal.

City-wise Forecast Overview

  • Amritsar: Partly cloudy skies with chances of rain; temperature between 24°C and 35°C.

  • Jalandhar: Partly cloudy with possible rainfall; temperature range 22°C to 35°C.

  • Ludhiana: Light cloud cover expected; temperatures to range from 23°C to 34°C.

  • Patiala: Partly cloudy with chances of showers; temperatures between 22.8°C and 35°C.

  • Mohali: Similar forecast with light rain expected; temperatures to stay between 24°C and 34°C.

IMD Advises Caution

Residents are advised to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid standing under trees or electric poles, and secure loose outdoor items. Farmers are especially cautioned to protect crops from hail and wind damage. Travel plans should consider potential delays due to adverse weather.
