A five-day weather alert has been issued for Punjab, as the region braces for intense heat and potential storms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, has warned of strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 60 km/h, thunderstorms, and lightning in multiple districts.
Despite alerts on Thursday, most parts of Punjab did not experience rainfall during the day. However, post 2 AM, several districts witnessed thunderstorms accompanied by light drizzle. The state has seen a consistent rise in temperature, with the average maximum temperature increasing by 0.9°C in the last 24 hours.
Bathinda recorded the highest temperature at a scorching 44.3°C, making it the hottest location in the state. Overall, 10 districts recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C:

The IMD has issued Orange Alerts for 12 districts and Yellow Alerts for 8 districts in Punjab due to potential weather disturbances.

Orange Alert for: Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Mohali, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Bathinda, and Sangrur.
Yellow Alert for: Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Moga, Barnala, Bathinda (dual alert), and Mansa.
May 31 to June 2:
Yellow Alerts continue for districts near Himachal Pradesh: Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, SBS Nagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, and Patiala.
Amritsar: Cloudy with expected rain. Temperature range: 28°C to 39°C.
Jalandhar: Cloudy skies with chances of rain. Temperature: 28°C to 39°C.
Ludhiana: Cloudy with expected showers. Temperature: 28°C to 40°C.
