Shooting Near White House Sparks Panic in Washington; 2 National Guard Members Injured, Trump Vows “Severe Punishment” for Attacker

Washington, D.C.—
A major security scare unfolded near the White House on Wednesday after two National Guard personnel stationed close to the U.S. President’s official residence were shot, causing widespread panic across the capital. The incident occurred just two blocks northwest of the White House.

According to officials, both injured service members sustained serious gunshot wounds and were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals. A suspected shooter was also wounded during the exchange and is currently in police custody. West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey confirmed that the investigation into the attack is ongoing.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple loud gunshots near the busy Farragut Square area, leading to chaos as people fled the scene. Local authorities stated that three individuals in total were injured and taken to hospitals for emergency treatment. The motive behind the shooting has not yet been revealed.

Trump Condemns Attack, Calls Shooter “Animal”

President Donald Trump, who was at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, at the time of the incident, reacted strongly to the attack. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the two National Guard members were “severely injured,” and warned that the attacker would face harsh consequences.

“The animal who shot the two National Guardsmen—both of whom are severely wounded and now in two separate hospitals—will pay a very big price,” Trump wrote. He added, “God bless our great National Guard, our entire military, and law enforcement. These are truly incredible people. As President of the United States, I stand with you!”

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting as security remains heightened in the capital.
