Frankfort, United States | December 10, 2025
Gun violence in the United States continues to claim lives, with the latest tragic incident reported from Kentucky State University. On Tuesday night, a shooting inside a university hostel resulted in the death of one student, while another student was seriously injured.
According to official details, the incident took place at Whitney M. Young Jr. Hall, a residence hall located on the Kentucky State University campus in Frankfort. As soon as the shooting was reported, the Frankfort Police Department rushed to the scene, secured the campus, and swiftly arrested a suspect. The suspect is currently in police custody and is being questioned. Authorities have not yet disclosed the motive behind the attack.
University officials confirmed that the injured student was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors described the condition as critical but stable. As a precautionary measure, the university administration imposed an immediate campus-wide lockdown following the shooting. The lockdown was lifted later after police confirmed that there was no further threat.
In an official statement, the university said it is in close contact with the affected families and is providing counseling and all possible support services to students, staff, and relatives impacted by the tragedy.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he confirmed that the suspect had been taken into custody.
“Violence has no place in our communities,” the governor wrote. “We are praying for everyone affected by this tragedy and hoping for the strength and healing of those impacted.”
The incident has heightened concerns among students and faculty, as this is the second shooting near the university area in the past four months. Earlier, on August 17, gunfire from a moving vehicle near the same hostel left two people injured. However, university officials clarified that no Kentucky State University students were involved in that earlier incident.
Kentucky State University is a historically Black college and university (HBCU), established in 1886. The institution currently serves approximately 2,200 students and holds significant historical and cultural importance in the region.
As investigations continue, law enforcement officials have urged the public to cooperate and avoid spreading unverified information. The tragic incident has once again reignited the national debate over gun violence and campus safety in the United States.
