Satya Pal Malik Death News: Former J&K Governor Passes Away in Delhi

New Delhi, August 5, 2025:
Former Governor Satya Pal Malik has passed away after a prolonged illness. He was undergoing treatment at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for an extended period, but despite medical efforts, he could not be saved. His demise marks the end of a long and eventful political career marked by key gubernatorial roles in several Indian states.

Satya Pal Malik, 78, had served as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Goa, and Meghalaya during crucial phases in Indian politics. His tenure in Jammu and Kashmir was particularly significant as he oversaw the region during the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. Malik often remained in the headlines for his outspoken views, even after demitting office.

Sources from the hospital confirmed that his health had been deteriorating for several weeks. He was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi, where he was under constant medical supervision. However, doctors declared his death earlier today after his condition became critical.

Political leaders across party lines have expressed condolences on his demise. Many recalled his role in navigating complex administrative challenges in Jammu and Kashmir and later in Meghalaya. Despite controversies surrounding some of his statements, he remained an influential figure in contemporary Indian politics.

Satya Pal Malik began his political journey with the Bharatiya Kranti Dal and later associated with various political parties, including Janata Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was also elected to the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha during his extensive political career.

His funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon, with state honors likely to be accorded in recognition of his services to the nation.
