S. Jaishankar Discusses Pahalgam Terror Attack with Russian FM Lavrov, Calls for Justice
New Delhi — May 3, 2025:
External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, in his latest diplomatic communication. Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar revealed that he raised the issue directly with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a bilateral discussion.
In his post, Jaishankar stated:
“Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack with FM Lavrov of Russia yesterday. Its perpetrators, backers and planners must be brought to justice. Also spoke about our bilateral cooperation activities.”
This clear message signals India’s firm stance on ensuring justice for victims and holding all responsible parties — whether directly involved or supporting from behind the scenes — accountable on an international platform.
The recent attack in the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam has sent shockwaves through the region, leading to increased security concerns. Several lives were lost, and multiple injuries were reported. The incident, reportedly orchestrated by cross-border terrorist groups, is under investigation by Indian security agencies.
Apart from the discussion on the terror attack, Jaishankar also mentioned bilateral cooperation with Russia. India and Russia share longstanding strategic relations spanning defence, energy, and space. The dialogue between the two foreign ministers reflects continued collaboration despite global geopolitical shifts.
This development further emphasizes India’s intent to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation with its allies, especially countries like Russia that wield significant influence on the global stage.
India has consistently pushed for a zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. At global forums including the United Nations and BRICS, India has demanded strict international action against terror-financing nations and non-state actors. Jaishankar’s discussion with Lavrov aligns with this broader diplomatic narrative.
By raising the issue directly with Russia, India aims to keep the focus on cross-border terrorism and ensure coordinated international responses to such threats.
