Russia Tests Deadly Nuclear-Powered Missile During Ukraine War — “Storm Bird” Impossible to Stop
Amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Russia has successfully tested its new nuclear-powered cruise missile, the “Burevestnik.” A senior Russian military official briefed President Vladimir Putin about this major achievement.
The missile, powered by nuclear energy, has an unlimited range and can carry nuclear warheads. According to General Valery Gerasimov, head of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Directorate, the missile traveled 14,000 kilometers (about 8,700 miles) and remained airborne for nearly 15 hours during the test.
President Vladimir Putin described the 9M730 Burevestnik—known to NATO as SSC-X-9 Skyfall—as invincible against both current and future missile defense systems. He emphasized that its range is practically infinite and its flight path unpredictable.
In his speech on Sunday, Putin directed General Gerasimov to immediately begin final deployment preparations, stating that the main testing phase of the Burevestnik missile is now complete.
Nuclear Propulsion:
This advanced cruise missile uses a miniaturized nuclear reactor for propulsion, giving it theoretically unlimited flight range.
Extended Flight Duration:
Unlike conventional missiles, the Burevestnik can stay airborne for weeks or even months due to its nuclear power source.
Low-Altitude Flight:
It flies at a low altitude of just 50–100 meters, making it extremely difficult for radar systems to detect or track.

The Russian word “Burevestnik” translates to “Storm Petrel”, a bird often seen as a symbol of approaching danger.
Working Mechanism:
Equipped with a compact nuclear reactor, the missile superheats incoming air, which then expands and propels it forward — a unique propulsion method never before used in weapon systems.
Bypassing U.S. and NATO Defenses:
Russia claims the Burevestnik can bypass any American or NATO missile defense network, posing a significant challenge to Western security systems.
With this test, Russia has signaled a major leap in nuclear missile technology — one that could potentially alter global military dynamics.
