Russia launches massive strike on Ukraine with 35 missiles and over 800 drones

In what is being described as one of the heaviest assaults since the war began in February 2022, Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine overnight, targeting military bases and gas plants. According to reports, Russian forces launched 35 long-range missiles and more than 800 drones, causing significant damage across multiple regions.

Sirens blared across Ukraine for nearly 11 consecutive hours, forcing civilians to flee to shelters. Strikes were reported in Kharkiv and Poltava, and for the first time, a government building in Kyiv was directly hit. Several residential complexes in the capital were also attacked, leaving parts of the city heavily damaged.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the use of four ballistic missiles, nine cruise missiles, and 810 drones. The primary targets included Ukraine’s state-owned energy company and other vital infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks as “deliberate crimes,” accusing Moscow of intentionally escalating tensions while peace efforts were underway. “The whole world wants this war to end, but Russia is prolonging it and refusing to engage sincerely in dialogue,” Zelenskyy said.

This assault came just weeks after Zelenskyy’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, who has been pushing for negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. However, Russia has continued its aggressive strikes, ignoring global calls for restraint.

Meanwhile, Moscow has warned NATO and European nations against supporting Ukraine, threatening that “any country assisting Kyiv will be treated as an enemy.” Analysts see this as a direct warning to President Trump and Western allies, as the war enters its 1,317th day since the invasion began.

The conflict, rooted in Russia’s opposition to Ukraine’s NATO aspirations and territorial disputes, has now become the most severe security crisis for Europe in decades.
