Russia Launches Massive Airstrikes on Ukraine; Over 450 Drones and 45 Missiles Fired, 7 Killed
Russia carried out another large-scale airstrike on Ukraine late Monday night, targeting major cities and critical energy infrastructure. According to Ukrainian authorities, Russia launched more than 450 drones and 45 missiles across multiple regions, killing at least seven people and injuring many others. The attacks caused widespread damage, particularly to Ukraine’s power network.
The strikes hit Kyiv, Poltava, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Kharkiv.
Officials reported:
Dnipro: A drone struck a residential apartment building, killing three people and injuring 12.
Zaporizhzhia: Another drone attack killed three people.
Kharkiv: One person died after missile impacts in the city.
Energy Infrastructure: Multiple power facilities were damaged, causing blackouts and power cuts in several regions.
Ukraine’s Energy Minister, Svitlana Hrynchuk, confirmed that while emergency repair teams stabilized parts of the power grid, rolling blackouts are necessary until full restoration is possible.
The Ukrainian Air Force stated that it intercepted and destroyed a large portion of the incoming weapons:
406 drones shot down
9 missiles intercepted
However, 52 drones and 26 missiles managed to strike 25 civilian and infrastructure sites, causing extensive damage, particularly to electricity systems in Kremenchuk and Horishni Plavni, where full power outages were reported.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks and urged Western allies to impose stronger sanctions on Russia. He also requested urgent support for advanced air defense systems to prevent further civilian casualties.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed the strikes were retaliation for recent Ukrainian air operations targeting Russian military positions.
This latest assault comes amid ongoing escalations in the conflict, showing no signs of de-escalation as winter approaches and Ukraine’s power grid faces renewed threats.
