In a move aimed at global outreach and investor engagement, the Telangana government has decided to rename the road leading to the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad as ‘Donald Trump Avenue’. The decision, taken ahead of the upcoming Telangana Rising Summit, is being seen as a carefully calibrated symbolic gesture to draw international attention toward the state.
According to official sources, the high-profile road near the U.S. Consulate will soon carry the name of former U.S. President Donald Trump. The Telangana government is expected to formally communicate this decision to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the U.S. Embassy through an official letter in the coming days.
The idea of renaming prominent roads in Hyderabad was first publicly floated earlier this year by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. While addressing the U.S.–India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) meeting in New Delhi, the chief minister had proposed naming major city roads after globally influential personalities and multinational corporations to enhance Hyderabad’s international brand value.
The renaming of the road to Donald Trump Avenue is the first major step in that direction.
The state government is also considering renaming several other key roads and junctions:
A greenfield radial road connecting the Nehru Outer Ring Road to the new Radial Ring Road will be named after legendary industrialist Ratan Tata.
An interchange at Raviryal has already been named the Tata Interchange.
A road near Google’s upcoming campus will be called Google Street, acknowledging the company’s contribution to the global tech ecosystem.
Other planned names include Wipro Junction and Microsoft Road, reflecting the presence and impact of major IT companies in Hyderabad.
Notably, Google’s upcoming Hyderabad campus is expected to be its largest headquarters outside the United States, adding further weight to the decision.
The Telangana government believes that such symbolic yet globally resonant naming decisions will help Hyderabad gain wider international recognition. With the Telangana Rising Summit approaching, the Congress-led state government is keen on positioning the state as an investor-friendly, globally connected destination.
Officials say the move is intended to:
Generate global buzz ahead of the investment summit
Strengthen international visibility of Hyderabad
Boost investor confidence and attract fresh foreign investment
According to government sources, although the announcement has not yet been made through a formal gazette notification, the process is already underway, and official confirmations are expected soon.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has emphasized that these changes are part of a larger vision to modernize Hyderabad’s global image and align it with international business and diplomatic ecosystems. By integrating globally recognized names into the city’s geography, the government hopes to reinforce Hyderabad’s position as a leading global technology and investment hub.
If implemented as planned, Telangana’s initiative could set a precedent for how Indian cities use symbolic diplomacy and urban branding to compete on a global stage.
