The much-awaited IPL 2025 clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was called off due to rain. Not a single ball was bowled at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The toss also could not take place. As a result, both teams shared one point each.
This abandoned match turned out to be especially costly for KKR. The defending champions were hoping to keep their playoff dreams alive. But with this washout, Kolkata has officially been knocked out of the IPL 2025 playoff race.
KKR became the fourth team to exit the playoff race, following Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Currently, KKR sits in sixth place with 12 points from 13 matches, including five wins and two no-result games due to rain.
Even if they win their final league match against SRH, they can only reach 14 points—likely not enough to make the top four.
RCB, led by Rajat Patidar, returned to the number-one position on the IPL 2025 points table with 17 points from 12 matches, including eight wins and one no-result. They are now very close to confirming their place in the playoffs.
Gujarat Titans (GT), who have played one match fewer, slipped to second place with 16 points from 11 matches. GT will next face Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday. If Gujarat wins, they too will qualify for the playoffs.
After Saturday’s match, only six teams remain in the race for the IPL 2025 playoffs:
RCB (17 points)
Gujarat Titans (GT) (16 points)
Punjab Kings (PBKS) (16 points from 12 matches)
Mumbai Indians (MI) (14 points)
Delhi Capitals (DC) (14 points)
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) (10 points from 11 matches)
Punjab and Gujarat both have a strong chance, while MI and DC need to win their remaining games and hope for other results to go in their favor. LSG remains in the race mathematically but faces a tough road ahead.

The tournament had been paused for eight days due to rising military tensions between India and Pakistan. Fans were eagerly waiting for the RCB vs KKR match, but rain in Bengaluru from 6 PM onwards didn’t allow even a single over to be bowled. Match officials officially called off the game at 10:24 PM.
