New Delhi, August 20, 2025:
In a major relief for passengers ahead of the festive season, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the Indian Railways will operate 12,000 special trains during Diwali and Chhath Puja. The minister assured that passengers will also get confirmed tickets to avoid last-minute rush and inconvenience.
Passengers travelling between October 13 and October 26 and returning between November 17 and December 1 will be issued confirmed tickets.
A 20% discount will be provided on return journeys.
Amrit Bharat Express Trains: Four new services will operate on key routes — Gaya–Delhi, Saharsa–Amritsar, Chhapra–Delhi, and Muzaffarpur–Hyderabad.
Vande Bharat Express: A new service between Purnia and Patna will be launched.
Buddhist Circuit Train: Covering important Buddhist sites including Vaishali, Hajipur, Sonepur, Patna, Rajgir, Gaya, and Koderma.
Four-line track to be built between Buxar and Lakhisarai.
Ring Railway system planned around Patna to ease congestion.
Preparations underway to launch a new train service from Patna to Ayodhya.
Speaking to the media, Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “During Diwali and Chhath, the rush of passengers reaches its peak. This decision has been taken to ensure smooth travel with confirmed tickets, special trains, and fare concessions.”
