Sochi, Russia – Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a stern warning to the United States on Thursday, cautioning Washington against pressuring India to stop buying Russian oil. Speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi, Putin emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is not a country that will ever tolerate humiliation.
Putin’s remarks came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump appealed to India, Europe, and China to halt Russian oil imports as part of efforts to weaken Moscow amid the ongoing Ukraine war.
The Russian leader asserted that any move to block India from purchasing Russian energy would not only harm India but also trigger a deeper global economic crisis. “If India stops buying Russian oil, crude prices will cross $100 per barrel, creating global instability,” Putin warned. He further assured that trade and payment-related issues between Russia and India could be resolved through BRICS mechanisms or alternative financial channels.
During his address, Putin also accused Europe of fueling the Ukraine conflict. He claimed NATO countries were directly engaged against Russia by supplying weapons, intelligence, and military training to Kyiv. According to Putin, a central command hub has been established in Europe to coordinate support for Ukrainian forces.
Putin expressed gratitude to BRICS nations, Arab countries, North Korea, and Belarus for supporting peace initiatives related to the Ukraine conflict. At the same time, he criticized recent U.S. foreign policy steps, including Trump’s Gaza plan and Washington’s decision to supply Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles.
With his latest statement, Putin not only defended Russia’s energy trade with India but also positioned Moscow as a partner determined to stand by New Delhi amid Western pressure.
