Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia is ready to work toward peace in Ukraine. His statement came after a two-hour phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday.

A Shift Toward Peace?

Speaking near the Black Sea resort in Sochi, Putin shared details of the conversation. He said that both leaders agreed on the need to restart talks with Ukraine. “Russia is ready to speak with Ukraine about a possible peace deal,” Putin said. “We will soon offer ideas on what the agreement could include and when it might happen.”

He thanked Trump for helping to reopen direct talks between Russia and Ukraine. According to Putin, this is a sign that the process is heading in the right direction.

Key Issues Still Remain

Putin stressed that peace talks must address the root causes of the war. “We want to find the best way to stop the fighting and move forward,” he added. However, he did not share any timeline or specific terms.

This comes shortly after Russia launched a massive drone attack on Ukraine, using over 270 drones. The attack caused heavy destruction and further strained ties between the two countries.

Trump: “The Talk Was Excellent”

President Trump also spoke about the call. In a post on Truth Social, he said the conversation with Putin went very well. He added that both Russia and Ukraine are likely to begin peace talks soon.

Trump also said that the Vatican has offered to host the talks. This shows that the international community is paying close attention to the situation.

What’s Next?

It’s still unclear when or where talks might begin. Both countries remain far apart on key issues. But the public statements from Putin and Trump suggest that a new path to peace may now be possible.
