Calgary, Canada – In a heart-pounding act of bravery, Punjabi taxi driver Hardeep Singh Toor transformed into a real-life guardian angel, saving a pregnant woman and her newborn baby amid a ferocious snowstorm and bone-chilling -23°C temperatures in Calgary.
The incident unfolded late at night when Calgary was gripped by brutal weather. Hardeep received an emergency call and rushed to pick up the pregnant woman and her partner for a hospital trip.
En route, the woman went into intense labor pains and gave birth to her baby right there on the back seat of the taxi—before they even reached the hospital. Outside, a deadly blizzard raged with -23°C cold, high winds, and icy roads making every mile a high-stakes gamble.
Hardeep later shared that those moments were the most challenging of his life. What should have been a 30-minute drive felt endless, with the weight of two lives in his hands.
“My only goal was to reach the hospital safely without wasting a second or risking an accident,” Hardeep Singh Toor said.
As soon as the taxi pulled up to the hospital, medical staff sprang into action. Doctors confirmed both the mother and baby are fully healthy. Hardeep has been hailed as a hero by hospital staff and locals alike.
Local Canadian media has spotlighted Hardeep as a true hero, with many noting that his selfless act—risking his own life in such extreme conditions—embodies the Punjabi cultural spirit of “seva” (selfless service).
