President Trump Announces Massive 155% Tariff on China Effective November 1, Cites Unfair Trade Practices

Washington D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump has reignited the tariff debate by announcing a sweeping new trade measure against China. Speaking at the White House, Trump declared that beginning November 1, his administration will impose a 155% tariff on Chinese imports, signaling one of the most aggressive economic steps of his presidency.

The announcement came in response to a reporter’s question about whether China would face tariffs for purchasing crude oil from Russia. Trump replied firmly, “I don’t think it will be sustainable for them (China).”

Explaining his decision, Trump said, “I want to treat China fairly, but they’ve been very tough on us for years because our past presidents weren’t smart businesspeople. They allowed China and other countries to take advantage of the United States.”

Trump Defends Tariff Strategy as “Necessary for National Security”

The President went on to highlight his previous trade deals with major allies. “I made a deal with the European Union, Japan, and South Korea — many of these are great agreements focused on national security. I was able to achieve them because of the tariffs,” he stated.

According to Trump, the U.S. is now collecting “billions, even trillions of dollars” in revenue from tariffs and will soon begin reducing its national debt. “These tariffs are not just about trade — they are about restoring respect and financial strength to our country,” he said.

India Mentioned in Trump’s Remarks

Turning to India, Trump expressed admiration for the country and its leadership. “I love the people of India. I spoke with Prime Minister Modi today, and we have a great relationship. We’re working on some fantastic deals between our nations,” Trump said.

He further noted that India “will not be buying more oil from Russia” and that both he and Prime Minister Modi want to see “an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.” Trump praised India for significantly reducing its oil purchases from Russia, adding that the country “is continuing on that path responsibly.”

A New Chapter in U.S.-China Trade Tensions

The 155% tariff announcement marks the latest escalation in U.S.-China economic tensions. Analysts believe it could lead to strong retaliation from Beijing and renewed volatility in global markets. However, Trump’s administration insists the move is essential to “protect American industries, jobs, and national interests.”
