Prayagraj: Air Force Training Aircraft Crashes into Pond – Pilots’ Quick Thinking Averts Major Disaster
Prayagraj Incident Avoids Catastrophe
In Prayagraj today, an Indian Air Force training aircraft met with an accident, but pilots’ sharp judgment prevented a major tragedy. Due to a technical malfunction, the plane crashed into a pond instead of a residential area, ensuring no loss of life. Both pilots aboard are safe and were rushed to the hospital with local help.
Engine Failure During Routine Flight
The incident occurred near CMP College and KP College. The Air Force’s ML-114 training jet had taken off for a routine exercise when its engine suddenly failed. Sensing the danger, the pilots immediately deployed the aircraft’s parachute, slowing its descent. The plane gently landed in a pond behind KP College. The loud noise of the parachute opening drew locals to the scene quickly.
Local Heroes Rescue Pilots
Thick hyacinth layers on the pond’s surface prevented the aircraft from fully submerging, proving a boon for the pilots. Moments after the crash, they signaled for help by waving from inside. Brave youths from nearby railway lines and bus stand jumped into the pond and safely pulled both pilots out. The pilots sustained minor injuries and are under treatment.
Rescue Teams Respond Swiftly
Local police, SDRF teams, and Air Force personnel arrived via helicopter soon after. With the ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj drawing large crowds, a crash in a residential or fairground area could have been devastating. Air Force teams are now working to retrieve the aircraft from the pond, and an investigation into the cause has begun.
