Powerful Earthquake Strikes Alaska; No Damage Reported
A strong earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale shook the Anchorage metropolitan area in the U.S. state of Alaska early Friday morning. The tremors were felt around 5:11 AM, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake’s epicenter was located about 14 kilometers west-northwest of Susitna, Alaska, at a depth of 69 kilometers.
Despite the powerful magnitude, no loss of life or property damage has been reported. Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance confirmed that all public infrastructure was found to be in good condition following inspections.
The National Tsunami Warning Center did not issue any tsunami alert. However, as a precautionary measure, Alaska’s Department of Transportation conducted protocol-based inspections of roads, tunnels, and transportation services, all of which were declared safe.
Alaska frequently experiences earthquakes due to its position along multiple tectonic plate boundaries.
