PM Modi Visits Flood-Hit Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, Assures Full Support to Affected Families
New Delhi/Chandigarh, September 9, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday departed from Delhi to review the devastating flood and landslide situation in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab, assuring that the Government of India stands firmly with the affected people during this tragic time.
In a post on social media platform X before leaving, PM Modi wrote, “The Government of India stands shoulder to shoulder with those affected during this painful period.”
According to government sources, the Prime Minister will be on a one-day visit to both states. His schedule includes an on-ground review in Himachal Pradesh, followed by an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Punjab. Later in the day, he will hold a high-level review meeting with senior officials in Gurdaspur to assess the relief and rescue operations.
During his visit, PM Modi is expected to meet flood-hit families, interact with disaster response teams including NDRF, SDRF, and Aapda Mitra volunteers, and take stock of the ongoing relief measures. Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar confirmed that the Prime Minister has been monitoring the flood crisis closely and remains deeply concerned about the situation.
Punjab is currently battling one of the most destructive floods in recent history. Overflowing rivers—Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi—combined with heavy rainfall in their catchment areas across Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, have worsened the disaster. Additional heavy rainfall across Punjab in recent days has further intensified the crisis.
So far, the floods have claimed 51 lives in Punjab. Nearly 1.84 lakh hectares of crops have been destroyed, causing widespread economic and agricultural losses. Thousands of families have been displaced, with relief camps set up in multiple districts.
Security measures in Gurdaspur have been significantly tightened in view of the Prime Minister’s visit. Authorities have assured that every possible effort is being made to provide relief, rehabilitation, and long-term recovery support to those affected.
