PM Modi in Assam: “I Am a Devotee of Lord Shiva, I Swallow All Poison”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited Darrang district of Assam, where he laid the foundation stone for healthcare and infrastructure projects worth ₹6,300 crore, including the much-awaited Guwahati Ring Road Project.

Speaking at the public gathering, Modi described himself as a devotee of Lord Shiva, saying:
“No matter how much abuse is hurled at me, I swallow all the poison. For me, the people of this nation are my God. The 140 crore citizens of India are my only remote control, my masters, and my source of strength.”

Attack on Congress

The Prime Minister targeted the Congress Party, accusing it of insulting Assam’s cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika. He said the BJP’s double-engine government is committed to fulfilling the dreams of great sons of Assam like Hazarika.

He reiterated that the opposition’s insults cannot weaken his resolve:
“When I go before my God — the people of this country — only their voice matters to me, not anyone else’s.”

Assam’s Development

Highlighting Assam’s progress, Modi said:
“Once struggling to keep pace with development, Assam has now transformed itself. With a growth rate of 13 percent, it stands among the fastest-growing states in India. This remarkable achievement reflects the determination of its people and the cooperative efforts led by the BJP’s double-engine government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.”

Reference to “Mother’s Insult” Row

The Prime Minister also referred to a recent controversy during the INDIA bloc’s “Voter Adhikar Yatra” in Darbhanga, Bihar, where opposition workers allegedly made derogatory remarks against him and his mother. The incident, captured on video, sparked a BJP complaint and led to the arrest of Mohammad Rizwi alias Raja from Bhapura village in Bihar.

Modi told the crowd: “I came to Assam for the first time after Operation Sindoor. At a time when India is the world’s fastest-growing major economy, Assam too is setting an example for rapid growth and transformation.”
