Panchkula Family Suicide Tragedy: Seven Found Dead in Car Due to Poisoning

In a chilling incident reminiscent of Delhi’s Burari mass suicide case, seven members of a single family were found dead inside a parked car in Haryana’s Panchkula late Monday night. The family, originally from Uttarakhand and residing in Panchkula on rent, allegedly consumed poison in a suspected mass suicide prompted by overwhelming debt.

According to preliminary police investigations, the deceased have been identified as Praveen Mittal (42), his wife, their three children (a son and two daughters), and Praveen’s elderly parents. Around 12:15 AM, the family was discovered in an unconscious and suspicious state inside a car parked near an empty plot in Sector 27.

Emergency Response and Investigation

Alerted by passersby, local police swiftly arrived at the scene and called for ambulances. All seven were rushed to a private hospital in Sector 26. While six were declared dead on arrival, Praveen Mittal, who was still alive, was referred to a government hospital in Sector 6 due to his critical condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed during treatment.

Senior police officials, including DCP Himadri Kaushik and DCP Crime Amit Dahiya, reached the location and initiated a thorough investigation. Forensic experts and the crime scene team collected evidence from the site and inspected the family’s car, which bore Uttarakhand registration plates.

Inside the vehicle, investigators found children’s school bags, food items, clothing, and other personal belongings, suggesting the family may have planned the act in advance.

Mounting Debts and Business Failure Behind the Tragedy

The motive behind the alleged group suicide appears to be severe financial distress. Police sources and neighbors revealed that Praveen had recently started a travel business in Dehradun, which failed, leaving the family burdened with significant debt. This financial strain is believed to have driven them to take this drastic step.

“The situation is still not entirely clear,” stated DCP Himadri Kaushik. “Our teams are thoroughly investigating all angles, including financial records, family background, and any possible note or communication left behind.”

This tragic case has sent shockwaves through the local community and revived painful memories of the 2018 Burari incident, where 11 members of a family were found dead under mysterious and ritualistic circumstances.

As police continue their investigation, the Panchkula family suicide tragedy stands as another grim reminder of the devastating toll of mental health struggles and financial crises.
