Oxygen Cylinder Explosion in Mohali Kills 2, Injures 3; Panic Grips Industrial Area
Mohali, August 6, 2025 — A powerful oxygen cylinder explosion at an industrial unit in Mohali’s industrial area has left two people dead and three others seriously injured, triggering widespread panic in the locality.
According to reports, the blast occurred while oxygen cylinders were being loaded at a plant operating under the name High-Tech Industry. The impact of the explosion was so intense that walls of nearby houses shook, and the roof of the factory was severely damaged.
DSP Harsimran Bal confirmed the fatalities, stating that the bodies were badly disfigured due to the force of the explosion. The three injured individuals were immediately rushed to the Phase-6 Civil Hospital in Mohali for emergency treatment.
Following the explosion, chaos erupted in the area. Police teams, fire brigades, and officials from the district administration — including Deputy Mayor Kuljit Bedi and SDM Damanpreet Kaur — reached the site promptly. Authorities evacuated the entire area, and rescue and relief operations are ongoing.
Initial investigations suggest that the factory where the blast took place is a long-established facility that supplies oxygen cylinders to both government and private hospitals across the Tricity region. However, the exact cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
Local residents reported that fragments of the exploded cylinder were found as far as one kilometre away, reaching the nearby village of Kambala. This indicates the magnitude of the blast, raising serious concerns about safety protocols at such facilities.
Police have launched a full-scale probe, including technical and forensic analysis, to determine whether the explosion was due to negligence, equipment failure, or other factors.
