New Book on June 1984 Ghallughara Released at Gurmat Samagam in Varpal Village
Tarn Taran, Punjab | June 11, 2025 — A new book chronicling personal experiences from the June 1984 Ghallughara was formally released during a Gurmat Samagam held on June 7 in Varpal village, Tarn Taran district. The event was dedicated to commemorating the martyrs of the June 1984 attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib and the wider Sikh resistance movement.
Titled “Ghallughara June 1984: Akhin Di The the Hidden-Handaye Haal” (Eyewitness and Lived Experiences), the book is authored by Bhai Raj Singh Varpal and published by Bibek Ghar Prakashan. Drawing from his own lived experiences as a participant in the events of 1984, Bhai Raj Singh presents a heartfelt, unfiltered narrative that blends prose and poetry to capture the emotional and historical weight of that period.
Though not a professionally trained historian, Bhai Raj Singh’s firsthand testimony offers a rare and vital perspective on the Ghallughara. His detailed account sheds light on lesser-known aspects of the armed resistance led by Sant Giani Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale, and challenges mainstream historical portrayals often clouded by political narratives.
