Netanyahu’s Defiant UN Address Met with Walkout Amid International Isolation
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a fiery speech to the UN General Assembly in New York, where he rejected the international recognition of a Palestinian state as “sheer madness” and “disgraceful.” His appearance was marked by a mass walkout from dozens of delegates.
Netanyahu used the platform to send a defiant message, broadcasting his speech into Gaza via loudspeakers and cellphones, and addressing the Hamas-held hostages directly with the promise, “We have not forgotten you.”
The speech comes as Israel faces intensifying global scrutiny over its occupation of the West Bank and war in Gaza. Notably, the rhetoric contrasts sharply with recent statements from both US President Donald Trump, who vowed to prevent Israel from annexing the West Bank ahead of a meeting on Monday, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who earlier demanded Hamas disarm and be excluded from Gaza’s future governance.
