NCW Takes Action Against Ullu App Over Obscene Content in House Arrest Web Series

New Delhi, May 2, 2025:
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo moto cognizance of objectionable content featured in the Ullu App web series House Arrest. The commission criticized the platform for promoting vulgarity and violating women’s consent, following the circulation of viral video clips from the show.

According to NCW, the clips reveal scenes where women appear to be coerced into performing intimate acts on camera, raising serious concerns about consent, exploitation, and objectification.

CEO and Host Summoned

The NCW has summoned the CEO of Ullu App and the host of the show for a personal appearance on May 9, 2025, demanding a thorough explanation. The Commission emphasized that such content not only disrespects women but also contributes to a toxic portrayal of gender roles and relationships.

NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma stated,

“Content like this is a direct violation of a woman’s dignity and perpetuates dangerous ideas about consent. We will not allow platforms to normalize or profit from such harmful narratives.”

Call for Accountability and Regulation

The commission has also called for stricter regulation of OTT platforms, urging the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to take note of such repeated violations.

This move comes amid rising concerns about OTT content lacking proper censorship, with platforms like Ullu App previously facing backlash for borderline pornographic series marketed under the guise of adult entertainment.

Public Reaction and Next Steps

Social media users have voiced strong reactions, with many demanding a permanent ban on such exploitative content. Meanwhile, the Commission has confirmed that the matter is under detailed review and appropriate action will be taken following the hearing.
