Following the escalation of tensions in the Middle East and the deadlock of peace talks between the U.S. and Iran in Islamabad, Russia has stepped in to play a new role in the conflict. Russian President Vladimir Putin held a detailed telephonic conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, offering to serve as a mediator between the United States and Iran.
During the call, Putin emphasized that Russia is fully committed to establishing stability and peace in the Middle East. This strategic move by Russia is significant for several reasons:
Leveraging Relations: Relations between Russia and Iran have strengthened significantly over the past few years, leading Putin to believe he can act as a credible and trusted mediator.
Balancing Influence: While China exerts influence in the region by supporting Iran, Russia is positioning itself as a primary “Peace Broker.”
