Massive Fire at Moradabad Restaurant: Four Gas Cylinders Explode, One Woman Killed
A major fire broke out late Sunday night at a restaurant in the Katghar area of Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to several others. The blaze, which began inside the restaurant, quickly spread to the upper residential floor of the same building, causing chaos among the people trapped inside.
According to officials, the fire erupted suddenly inside the restaurant, where around 15 to 16 people were present at the time. Within minutes, four gas cylinders exploded one after another, spreading flames across the entire structure. Local residents alerted the authorities, after which seven fire engines rushed to the scene and began dousing the flames.
One 56-year-old woman died on the spot, while seven others suffered burn injuries and were immediately shifted to Moradabad District Hospital. Doctors said the condition of the injured remains stable. Firefighters faced extreme difficulty rescuing people from the building’s upper floor, where several residents, including women, a child, and even a pet dog, were trapped.
A senior fire department officer said, “It was challenging to evacuate people due to the intensity of the fire and the multiple cylinder explosions. However, our teams managed to rescue everyone safely from the upper floor.” He added that the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, though a short circuit or gas leak is suspected.
The area has been cordoned off, and a forensic team has been deployed to inspect the site. The tragic incident has sparked concerns about fire safety compliance in restaurants and mixed-use buildings in densely populated parts of the city.
