Despite a disastrous domestic campaign, Manchester United retain Amorim as head coach heading into next season, regardless of the Europa League final result. The club hierarchy believes Ruben Amorim deserves a full summer transfer window to reshape the squad around his tactical vision.
United have endured one of their worst Premier League seasons in decades, sitting 16th after 17 losses – their poorest performance since 1973-74. Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in November but has yet to produce a turnaround. Still, club leaders remain confident he is the right man to rebuild.
With a Europa League final against Tottenham on 21 May, United have a last chance to rescue their season and secure a Champions League spot. However, insiders say the coach’s future is not dependent on the outcome.
Amorim appeared visibly frustrated after a 2-0 loss to West Ham, hinting that the team’s mentality needs serious reform. “We need to be really strong in the summer and be brave,” he said. “If the feeling is still here we should give space [his position] to different persons.”
He added that fear of failure no longer exists within the squad – a dangerous mindset for a club of United’s stature.
The Portuguese manager has reportedly identified Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and Ipswich’s Liam Delap as priority signings. Cunha has a £62.5 million release clause, while Delap is valued at £30 million. However, United will likely need to offload players to fund these acquisitions.
Marcus Rashford is among those expected to leave. Currently on loan at Aston Villa, he could be sold permanently, with Villa holding a £40 million buy option. United may seek a higher bid from another club.
Despite fan frustration, a revamped summer strategy can restore the club’s competitive edge.
