Major Suicide Bombing in Islamabad: Shia Imambara Blast Kills 24, Dozens Injured

Islamabad, February 6, 2026
Pakistan’s capital was shaken by a horrific terrorist attack today. A suicide bomber detonated himself at the Tarlai Imambara (Shia religious site) in Shahzad Town area, killing 24 people so far with around 80 others injured.

Attack Details

The blast occurred during Friday afternoon prayers when the imambara was packed with devotees. Reports indicate the suicide bomber exploded at the main gate using explosives. All major Islamabad hospitals immediately declared ‘High Alert’ and emergency status.

Second Major Attack in Three Months

This comes just months after the November 11, 2025 suicide bombing outside Islamabad’s District and Sessions Court that killed 12, highlighting growing instability and security lapses in the region.

Political Reactions

President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the incident as a “crime against humanity,” expressing condolences to victims’ families and ordering top medical care for the injured.

Parliamentary Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry called it a “cowardly act,” urging national unity and peace.

No terrorist group has claimed responsibility yet. Police and security forces have cordoned off the area for investigation.
