In the midst of intense and escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, a significant and welcome development has emerged. U.S. President Donald Trump has surprised the world by announcing a two-week ceasefire, just minutes before a scheduled attack deadline was set to expire.
President Trump clarified that this decision was made following a special request from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir. He further shared that Iran has agreed to immediately and safely reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway critical to the global oil supply.
Taking to social media, Trump shared that the decision to pause bombardment for 14 days was based on discussions with the Pakistani leadership and a 10-point proposal submitted by Iran.
Military Objectives: Trump claimed that the U.S. has not only met its military objectives but is now very close to a peace agreement.
Diplomatic Path: This bilateral ceasefire is intended to help end the long-standing hostility between the two nations and finalize a permanent deal.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, during a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, stated that the “ball is now in Iran’s court.” While emphasizing that the U.S. prefers a diplomatic solution, he issued a firm warning:
“The United States possesses the full capability to inflict heavy damage on Iran if necessary.”
This announcement is expected to bring stability to international oil prices. The global community has breathed a collective sigh of relief as a potentially massive worldwide crisis appears to have been averted for the time being.
