Amritsar Police have achieved a significant breakthrough in their campaign against drug trafficking by arresting a sitting Sarpanch along with two associates, seizing a large quantity of heroin and illegal weapons. Adding a controversial layer to the case, images of the arrested Sarpanch with high-ranking leaders of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have gone viral on social media immediately following the arrest.
ASI Palwinder Singh of the Mehta Police Station received a secret tip-off that certain individuals were planning to supply drugs and weapons using a Scorpio vehicle with a VIP number (PB02-BD-9300). The police promptly set up a blockade near the OAT Center and intercepted the suspicious vehicle. During the search, the police recovered:
4 kg 300 grams of Heroin
One .30 bore Pistol
Four live cartridges
The police took three suspects into custody at the scene:
Lovepreet Singh (Resident of Kot Hirderam) – Identified as the Sarpanch.
Simarpreet Singh (Resident of Kot Hirderam)
Balwant Singh (Resident of Patti Sunh di Verka)
Following the arrest of Sarpanch Lovepreet Singh, photos have surfaced showing him with several national-level leaders, including a prominent female AAP leader and a constituency in-charge. Reports suggest that the Sarpanch is a close aide of the constituency in-charge, who recently defected from the Akali Dal to join AAP. However, the Aam Aadmi Party has not yet released an official statement regarding this matter.
The police have registered a case against the three accused under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. The investigation is now focused on tracing the links of this drug trafficking network and determining if any high-profile political patrons are involved behind the scenes.
