Chandigarh/Kaithal: March 19, 2026
The Punjab Police Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has achieved a major breakthrough in the brutal murder of property dealer Chamanpreet Singh alias Chini in the posh Sector 9 area of Chandigarh. Following a fierce encounter in Kaithal, Haryana, police apprehended two key suspects along with weapons. The arrested shooters have been identified as Rajan alias Piyush Pahalwan from Ferozepur and Pritam Shah from Nawanshahr. Police also recovered the motorcycle and illegal firearms used in the crime.
Meanwhile, revelations from the deceased’s family point toward a sophisticated conspiracy behind the killing. Chamanpreet’s cousin, who serves as a Major in the Army, has raised questions regarding the role of two suspicious women. The family claims that a vehicle carrying approximately eight people was present at the scene during the murder. According to them, the killers had precise information about Chamanpreet’s gym schedule and movements, suggesting he was being tracked by someone close to him. The family has refused to allow a post-mortem until all conspirators are arrested.
Chamanpreet’s close friend, Balkar Singh, leveled serious allegations against the administration, stating that both he and Chamanpreet had been seeking police protection due to long-standing threatening calls. They had also applied for arms licenses, but their pleas reportedly went unheard. According to Balkar, Chamanpreet chose the Sector 9 gym specifically because he believed the VIP status and high security of the area would deter any attackers. Notably, Chamanpreet was struck by 12 bullets as he exited the gym on Wednesday; gangster Lucky Patiala has claimed responsibility for the hit.
In response to rising gangster activity and recent firing incidents in Sector 9 and Punjab University, Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria has taken serious note of the situation. He has summoned top police officials to the Governor House to review the city’s law and order status. Chamanpreet, a resident of village Kubbheri in Mohali, leaves behind several unanswered questions that the police are now attempting to resolve through the interrogation of the captured shooters.
