Mahinder Kaur Refuses to Forgive Kangana Ranaut, Vows to Pursue Defamation Case Over Tweet Controversy
Trouble continues to mount for actor and Rajya Sabha MP Kangana Ranaut, as 82-year-old farmer Mahinder Kaur has firmly stated that she will not forgive Ranaut and will continue pursuing the ongoing defamation case against her.
The controversy dates back to 2020–21, when Kangana Ranaut allegedly made a tweet during the farmers’ protest, mistakenly identifying Mahinder Kaur as another woman and commenting on her. The incident triggered widespread outrage, leading Kaur to file a defamation complaint.
On Monday, Ranaut personally appeared before a Bathinda court, where she apologized for her social media post and was later granted bail on a ₹50,000 bond.
Speaking to The Tribune India, Mahinder Kaur made it clear that she had no intention of forgiving the actor-politician.
No Forgiveness: “She (Kangana) never met me. I will never forgive her,” Kaur said bluntly.
Disappointment: The elderly farmer expressed deep disappointment that, despite Ranaut’s stature as a leading actor and parliamentarian, she was compelled to appear in court at her advanced age.
Denial of Misinterpretation: Kaur dismissed Ranaut’s claim that her comment had been “misunderstood,” insisting that the statement had clearly defamed her.
After the court appearance, Kangana Ranaut spoke to reporters and described the entire episode as a “misunderstanding.”
Miscommunication Claim: She said she had reached out to “Mata Ji” (Mahinder Kaur) and her husband, explaining that her words had been misinterpreted.
Denial of Defamatory Intent: Ranaut clarified that she never made any personal remark against anyone, asserting that it was merely a retweeted meme featuring multiple women.
Expression of Regret: “I regret that a misunderstanding arose from the post,” she said, “but if one looks at it fairly, there was no intention to insult anyone.”
While Mahinder Kaur herself was not present in court, her husband attended the proceedings. Ranaut reiterated her respect for all mothers, saying, “Every mother, whether from Punjab or Himachal, deserves respect.”
