A medical helicopter en route to Kedarnath Dham from AIIMS Rishikesh crashed just 20 meters from the helipad on Saturday, 17 May 2025. Two doctors and the pilot were onboard. All three survived without injuries.
The chopper belonged to an emergency medical service team. It was flying to support healthcare needs during the Char Dham Yatra. The aircraft went down moments before landing. Rescue teams responded quickly and confirmed that no one suffered injuries.

Officials confirmed the pilot managed to control the crash and avoid major damage. The incident happened in a high-altitude zone, where flights often face weather and altitude challenges.
This is the third helicopter incident in Uttarakhand this May. Authorities are now focusing on improving aerial safety in the region.
On 8 May, a chopper heading to Gangotri Dham crashed in Uttarkashi. It carried seven people, including the pilot. Five pilgrims and the pilot died at the scene. A woman survived but suffered injuries. Doctors admitted her to AIIMS for treatment.
This tragedy included a TDP Member of Parliament and a relative. The loss shocked the Char Dham community and raised serious safety concerns.
On another day, a helicopter returning from Badrinath to Sherasi in Chamoli district had to make an emergency landing at Renka in Ukhimath. Officials blamed bad weather for the mid-air trouble. No one was hurt, but the risk was clear.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation into the Kedarnath helicopter crash 2025. Officials are also reviewing flight safety procedures for all helicopters used during the Char Dham Yatra.
