Jemima Goldsmith, the ex-wife of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, has made a direct plea to Elon Musk to increase the visibility of her social media posts. According to Grok, Musk’s AI tool, she claims that whenever she posts about Imran Khan, the platform’s algorithm throttles her reach to nearly zero—especially in Pakistan.
Imran Khan, imprisoned in Adiala Jail, shows no signs of respite despite court orders. No one has been allowed to meet him, allegedly on the instructions of Army Chief Asim Munir. On Friday, Goldsmith turned to X (formerly Twitter) to appeal to Tesla CEO Elon Musk. In a post, she highlighted that her multiple tweets about Khan receive virtually no reach in Pakistan.
In her post on the social media site X, Goldsmith reminded Musk of his advocacy for free speech. She wrote: “Personal appeal to @elonmusk: My two sons are not allowed to see or speak to their father, Imran Khan. He has been held in illegal solitary confinement for the past 22 months. X is the only platform where we can inform the world that he is a political prisoner deprived of basic human rights.”
Goldsmith accused Pakistani authorities of efforts to erase Khan’s name from public discourse. His name has been removed from every TV channel and radio station, forcing her and his supporters to rely on her ex-husband’s platform to expose this injustice.
She added: “Grok, your own AI, says that every time I post about Imran Khan’s prison conditions, solitary confinement, or my son’s access to his father, the algorithm restricts that post… Pakistani authorities have criticism of Imran Khan at the top of their online surveillance, and X is quietly complying.”
Reminding Musk of his free speech promises, Goldsmith urged: “You promised free speech, not speech that no one hears. Please fix the visibility filtering on my account so we can get our message out to the world.”
For context, Imran Khan and Goldsmith married in 1995 and have two sons, Sulaiman Isa and Qasim. They separated after nine years together in 2004. Goldsmith later moved to the US but has frequently spoken out in support of Khan. Khan remains in Adiala Jail, where supporters claim he faces ongoing harassment and mistreatment. Pakistan’s military and government have maintained silence on the matter.
