Love knows no age, and this unusual story from Japan proves it. A 33-year-old man fell deeply in love with a woman 21 years older than him—none other than his former classmate’s mother. Despite strong opposition from her family, the man’s determination and affection eventually led to a grand wedding that has now become the talk of social media.
Isamu Tomioka, 33, first met Midori, the mother of his classmate, during a parent-teacher meeting at school. Though it was a brief encounter, Tomioka admitted that he was instantly drawn to her. Years passed, and their paths crossed again when Tomioka visited his old classmate’s salon for a haircut. To his surprise, Midori was there—and this time, she greeted him warmly. By then, she was divorced, and the spark between them grew stronger.
Encouraged by this reunion, Tomioka confessed his feelings to Midori. Initially, she hesitated due to the significant age gap and societal pressures. But Tomioka’s persistence and genuine affection began to win her over. Midori soon realized that her heart, too, was leaning toward him.
Midori’s family strongly opposed the relationship, arguing that she was too old to have children and that Tomioka deserved a younger partner. However, Tomioka was determined to prove his commitment. Eventually, Tomioka’s devotion softened the families’ stance. Both sides finally gave their blessings, and in July 2024, the couple tied the knot in a grand wedding ceremony. Today, Tomioka not only has a wife but also embraces his new role as the stepfather to Midori’s daughter—his former classmate—and enjoys being part of a family with grandchildren.
