Quetta, Pakistan | Oct 7, 2025 – The Jaffar Express train has once again come under attack in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province. The incident occurred near Sultan Kot, a town located on the Sindh–Balochistan border, while the train was en route to Quetta.
The Baloch Republican Guards (BRG), a separatist group, claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement, the organization said they targeted the train because Pakistani army soldiers were on board.
“The attack was carried out when Pakistani troops were traveling on the train. Several soldiers were killed and others wounded. Six carriages derailed due to the explosion,” the BRG statement claimed, further vowing that such operations would continue until Balochistan gains independence from Pakistan.
This is not the first time the Jaffar Express has been attacked:
March 2025 Attack: Militants used an improvised explosive device (IED) placed on the tracks, causing six coaches to derail and injuring several passengers.
Bolán Pass Incident (Earlier in 2025): Armed militants ambushed the train, briefly holding around 400 passengers hostage. The attackers detonated explosives on the tracks, sparking a fire and killing multiple security personnel before Pakistani forces freed the train after hours of operations.
Security forces quickly reached the site of Monday’s blast, and rescue operations are ongoing. Social media footage showed damaged train coaches and emergency teams working at the scene. While reports suggest injuries, officials have not confirmed any fatalities so far.
The attack underscores the ongoing insurgency in Balochistan, where separatist groups have repeatedly targeted Pakistani infrastructure, including railways, roads, and military convoys. Analysts warn that these attacks highlight both the rebels’ persistence and the state’s continued struggle to secure the region.
