At least 28 people were killed in an Israel airstrike on Gaza hospital as tensions soared in the ongoing war with Hamas. The attack targeted the European Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, which also left dozens injured, according to Hamas-run civil defense officials.

Six bombs dropped on hospital compound

Local sources reported that Israeli fighter jets dropped six bombs on the hospital compound in a single wave. The strikes severely damaged the hospital’s inner courtyard and surrounding areas. The timing and location of the bombing have raised serious concerns about civilian safety and the targeting of medical infrastructure during wartime.

The escalation comes as neither side shows signs of de-escalation, raising fears of an even more destructive phase of the conflict. Witnesses describe scenes of chaos and panic as emergency crews attempted to rescue those buried under debris.

Israel confirms strike, claims Hamas used hospital as shield

In a rare move, Israel officially confirmed the airstrike. The Israeli military stated that it conducted a precision strike on a Hamas command and control center allegedly operating beneath the hospital. The military claims Hamas continues to use civilian infrastructure to shield its operations.

An Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson said, “The target was a legitimate military asset. Hamas embeds its activities under hospitals and endangers civilians.”

Hamas has denied the claim that any military operations were based inside or under the hospital.

Journalist injured in the attack

Among those wounded in the blast was a freelance journalist working for the BBC. Reports say the journalist received medical attention and is now in stable condition.

This latest Israel airstrike on Gaza hospital marks one of the deadliest single attacks on medical facilities in the current round of fighting. Human rights organizations have called for immediate investigations and renewed calls for protecting civilian spaces during armed conflicts.
