Washington/Tehran:
Tensions in the Gulf region have reached an extremely perilous turning point. On Friday, the Iranian military targeted and shot down another powerful US Air Force aircraft, an A-10 Thunderbolt, near the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. This marks the second time within a single week that Iran has destroyed a sophisticated US warplane, following the previous downing of an F-15 fighter jet. Reacting sharply to these incidents, President Donald Trump stated in clear terms: “This is war, and we are at war.”
According to US officials, after the aircraft was hit, the pilot managed to enter Kuwaiti airspace and successfully ejected via parachute. The plane subsequently crashed within Kuwait’s borders. Notably, this attack occurred while the US military was already conducting a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation for crew members missing from the previous incident. The Iranian military confirmed the strike via ‘Al Jazeera’.
Casualties & Rescues: Out of the two crew members from the previously downed F-15 jet, only one has been rescued so far.
Helicopters Targeted: Two UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters engaged in the rescue mission were also targeted. Fortunately, all personnel on board those helicopters are reported safe.
Diplomatic Status: President Trump indicated in an interview that following these escalations, there is no longer any room for diplomatic talks.
The attacks occurring in the sensitive waters of the Strait of Hormuz have triggered massive uncertainty in the Global Energy Market. As a primary transit route for global fuel, any disruption here could severely impact the supply of oil and LPG, posing a significant economic challenge for nations like India.
Current Status: The region remains on high alert as military posturing intensifies on both sides.
