IndiGo Crisis: 500 Flights Cancelled Today; ₹827 Crore Refund Issued, 4,500 Lost Bags Returned

New Delhi, November 8, 2025:
IndiGo Airlines, which is currently facing a major operational crisis, cancelled 500 flights on Monday (December 8, 2025). According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the airline had planned to operate 1,802 flights today across 138 domestic and international destinations.

Flight Cancellations

A total of 500 flights were cancelled on Monday, while 1,802 flights continued to operate as per schedule.

Refund Status

IndiGo has issued ₹827 crore in refunds for 955,591 PNRs cancelled between November 21 and December 7.
Between December 1 and 7 alone, refunds worth ₹569.65 crore were processed for 586,705 cancelled PNRs.

Baggage Return Progress

Out of nearly 9,000 misplaced bags, the airline has successfully returned 4,500 bags to passengers.
The ministry stated that the remaining bags will be returned within the next 36 hours.

Cause of the Crisis

IndiGo said that the disruption was triggered by the new Flight Duty Time Limit (FDTL) rules, implemented on November 1, 2025.
The airline admitted that it failed to properly assess the increased pilot requirement and did not adequately manage its crew roster.

Regulatory Response from DGCA

To stabilize operations, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has:

  • Withdrawn the newly introduced weekly rest rules for pilots for all airlines

  • Granted IndiGo a temporary exemption from night-duty rules until February 10, 2026

  • Issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo

  • Formed a four-member committee to investigate the entire incident

Large-scale cancellations have been ongoing, with around 850 flights cancelled on December 6 and about 750 flights cancelled on December 7.
